LEADING BRANDS, INC. SUBSIDIARY, QUICK.COM,
APPOINTS GERRY KENYON TO HEAD RETAIL OPERATIONS
VANCOUVER, CANADA, May 24, 2000 LEADING BRANDS, INC. (NASDAQ:LBIX), Canada's largest independent, fully integrated brand management company, is pleased to announce that Gerry Kenyon has been appointed Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Retail Operations for its subsidiary, Quick.com, Inc. With more than 30 years retail grocery experience, Mr. Kenyon is the former chief executive of a large retail grocery chain, with annual sales of more than $500 million US.
Leading Brands Chairman and CEO, Ralph McRae, said: "We are extremely fortunate to have attracted someone with Gerry's qualifications to our company. He has the talents, skills and experience necessary to build Quick.com into a strong contender in this space. We believe that he is the most senior retail grocery executive to join an online home delivery company and are proud to have him on our team."
Mr. Kenyon added: "I am impressed with the strategic vision for Quick.com developed by Leading Brands and its partners. Existing online home delivery companies seem to have failed in their efforts to design systems that can profitably serve the "last mile of e-commerce". I believe that Quick.com has created a proprietary system that solves that problem. I am excited about our ability to deliver an economic and fast growing alternative."
Quick.com is building a North American-wide home replenishment system for goods purchased over the Internet. Initially concentrating on the $500 Billion grocery industry, Quick.com will expand its offering to provide same day home delivery services to other e-tailers. Quick.com plans to commence operations in Vancouver during the Summer of this year.
